ICRISAT is a nonprofit, non-political organization that does innovative agricultural research and capacity building for sustainable development with a wide array of partners across the globe.

ICRISAT's mission is to help empower 600 million poor people to overcome hunger, poverty and a degraded environment in the dry tropics through better agriculture. ICRISAT belongs to the Alliance of Future Harvest Centers of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).

ICRISAT has its HQ in Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh, India with regional units in Niamey (Niger) for WCA, Nairobi (Kenya) for ESA.

The dry regions of sub-Saharan Africa and Asia, where the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) works, are the poorest places on earth. Most of the people who live here are subsistence farm families with little or no vital resources. ICRISAT works on ways and means to feed and support the livelihoods of the poorest of the poor in the semi-arid tropics.
