Global Biofuels Ltd. (RC 679588), a subsidiary of NeGSt Global Integrated Co. Ltd., is implementing a project to convert the juice from the stalk of sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L) Moench) to ethanol. The initiative is the product of research on sorghum cultivars by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) with HQ in India. Sweet sorghum is similar to grain sorghum with sugar-rich stalks.

The Company presently pioneering Nigeria’s entrance into the Renewable Energy Sector of the economy. The Company, is working with the NNPC, seven (7) state governments, the European Economic Development Council (EEDC) and the Canadian Development Corporation (CDC) to establish seven (7) 200 KLPD fuel ethanol refineries in various parts of Nigeria. Each refinery together with the associated farm for feedstock production will directly employ 8,000 Nigerians in additions to creating 40,000 indirect jobs.

The Company has been working with the International Crop Research Institute for the Semi Arid Tropics(ICRISAT) of India (www.icrisat.org), the Institute of Agricultural Research, ABU Samaru, Zaria, and Praj International Ltd (www.praj.net) also of India to propagate the use of sweet sorghum as the most promising feedstock for the commercial production of fuel ethanol.
